About Us

Under the leadership of Ed Fields and a diverse group of Bahamians (called the First Thirty), We The People Bahamas was launched on November 16, 2010 with the singular goal of influencing positive change towards a better Bahamas.

The Association for all intents and purposes is defined as an action-oriented, research and advocacy-based, non-political (without reservation or exception), not for profit and membership driven organization designed to inspire participation from the collective in bringing about a better Bahamas as defined by its people.

It is a registered non-profit organization whose membership is open to students, academia, business professionals, retired public officials, other institutions and associations, the general public, and anyone who loves The Bahamas.

The purposes of the Association are:
  • To originate, advocate, promote and disseminate public policy proposals that will build and advance the progressive development of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and its people;
  • To build credibility among the general public as the voice of reason;
  • To maintain a sustained presence as the singular body that through its membership and affiliation, can influence public policy with a non partisan perspective;
  • To assist, promote or propose legislation and policy in the interests of We The People and for the benefit of the people of The Bahamas. (We The People may aid and join with any other similar organization, institution, or association); and
  • To engage in any act or activity that is not prohibited under any law for the time being in force in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in furtherance of the growth and development of the Bahamian people.
The organizational Founding Pledge is:

Whereas WE THE PEOPLE is founded on the principles of non-partisanship, civility and constructive dialogue in order to promote and act on its commitment to the process of change, We, the people, make the following pledge:

  1. I shall always treat every person with dignity and respect and give due consideration to the legitimate concerns of ALL contributors to the discussion.
  2. I will act as a source of unity and common purpose.
  3. I will always act in the best interest of the general membership and the public welfare.
  4. I agree that all publicly stated positions made on behalf of WE THE PEOPLE will be those that are decided upon through the WE THE PEOPLE consensus process.
We, the people, pledge to uphold the above.
